STORAGE TIPS
Before you start packing make sure you have all the right packaging materials to make the job easier and to ensure that your belongings don't get damaged in transit or when being stored. Remember the secret to storage is to stack goods so that all the height of the unit is used.
- Sofas would be better stored on their end, so the use of bubble wrap would be recommended.
- Beds, wardrobes, tables should be dismantled wherever possible.
- Fridges and freezers should be fully defrosted, cleaned and left with doors ajar.
- Dishwashers and washing machines should be drained, cleaned and left with doors ajar.
- Use wardrobes and chest of drawers to store boxes, giving you extra room.
- Boxes should be filled to capacity if possible to avoid tipping when stacked.
- Store heavy items in smaller boxes.
- Allow large and heavy items to form the base of the storage with lighter items on the top.
- Archive boxes are available for document and paperwork.
- Wardrobe boxes will help your clothes keep their shape.
- Clearly mark boxes with its contents, room and whether the contents are fragile.
- Bubble wrap is the ideal way to protect your, TV, stereo, furniture and pictures.
- All fragile items should be wrapped in bubble wrap.
- Pictures and mirrors should be stacked upright to prevent breakages.
- Clothing and bedding should be packed in boxes or suitcases - they sweat in plastic bags!
- Remove batteries from electrical items to avoid corrosion.
- Clean garden equipment and make sure your lawnmower is drained of petrol.
- Position items you will need frequently at the front of the unit.
- Cover your belongings with dust sheets.
